Nature Inspires Growth

What is a forest school?
Forest School is a child-centered learning approach that promotes holistic development regular sessions. This long-term program encourages play, exploration, and risk-taking, building confidence and self-esteem a natural environment. Rooted in Scandinavia's friluftsliv, Forest School has evolved globally since arriving in the UK in 1993. It nurtures learners socially, emotionally, and intellectually in a safe space for experimentation. By embracing risk, participants enhance their abilities through real-world problem-solving, fostering resilience and independence. Research supports its outcomes, but the enjoyment of learners leaders is equally important!
Skill building
The Montessori philosophy emphasizes a child-centered approach to education, fostering independent learning, self-directed activities, and hands-on experiences in a prepared environment, promoting the development of the whole child. Using this approach, students can hone in on their interest to develop and refine their skills.
Literacy
A passion for books and language is something we pride ourselves on. Students can view reading as a pastime, a de-stressor, and a way to escape instead of a chore or assignment. Through read-alouds and independent reading time, students grow as learners through the pages at their fingertips.
Arts
All children are artists and nature provides so many opportunities for students to get messy and create. Whether its architecture, painting, model building, or whittling, students can explore so many modalities in creative expression.
Connection
By growing knowledge and awareness about our ecosystem, students can cultivate empathy towards the natural world. This life-long connection strengthens community, appreciation, and love for the living and nonliving things around us.
STEM
Science is the foundation of our school's philosophy as it is everything around us. Using this principle, we focus on questions rather than answers to make discoveries. Inquiry-based learning gives students the opportunity to fail and thus learn and try again. Through trial and error they become creative learners rather than expecting an answer to appear.
Self-Awareness
One of the foundations of this program is equity and the whole-child approach to learning. By seeing our students as individuals and growing relationships between educators and peers, students can reflect and become aware of themselves in the process. Self-awareness leads to inward thought and growth.
